Create the following comparison matrix on a large bulletin board. (PDF of Matrix bulletinboard.pdf) The students will use the matrix to compare the top ten predators using the ranking criteria which the authors used to select their top ten as well as criteria which the students feel is important to consider. In the lesson, cooperative groups find evidence in the text to support each of the criteria on one animal. They will fill in the matrix with the evidence found and then give each criteria a value. The numbers will be added up to arrive at each animal's new rank. See photos below.
